That's me. I hate posing for photographs mainly because I don't know how. It feels weird looking at a camera with a smile pasted on my face while someone snaps a shot. So I usually look away or make silly faces.
Now that I've explained the photo, let me talk about my blog. Nodesserts may seem an odd name for a blog that features a lot of desserts. Well, it didn't start that way. My story (not my life story but my food story) took shape about three years or so ago. That's when I really started devoting a lot of time to cooking. I started writing a column (titled Don't Call Me Chef) in The Star, the English daily that I work for in Malaysia with two of my colleagues (they blog too — check out The Hungry Caterpillar and The Wayward Oven) and I started this blog. I am a vegetarian and have been one since 1989 when I was 17 and my column and this blog was devoted to vegetarian cooking.
Since I don't have a sweet tooth, I titled the blog Nodesserts. I didn't bake much, you see. I cooked.
Well, that changed about two years ago ... with a loaf of bread. Yup. I made my first loaf of bread and after that, I was hooked on baking: breads, cakes, cookies, pies ... you name it. I now bake more than I cook.

I really don't know what direction this blog will take in time as I am continuously learning. I hope you enjoy these recipes, whether or not you are a vegetarian. Stay tuned. Yes?

ReplyDeleteI was a vegetarian for four years, after reading 'Skinny Bitch'. I feel your pain about being 'pitied'. My family would always ask, "what CAN you eat?". I'm back on the meat wagon, but only because my body told me to. Good for you!
